Water is essential in various manufacturing industries like food processing, dairy, machine processing & other sectors. High-quality water ensures clean water for production, and impurities are removed from wastewater, meeting relevant industry standards. The Sumitomo  Poreflon membrane is a Japanese technology advanced membrane for various water treatment applications. Made from 100% PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) Sumitomo membrane is a high-quality membrane enabling advanced water treatment capability.

What is Sumitomo Poreflon Membrane?

Sumitomo Poreflon membrane is a high-performance porous PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) developed by Sumitomo Electric. It is renowned for its superior chemical & heat resistance and durability. The Sumitomo membrane Poreflon module is widely used in various water treatment applications, including demanding water treatment (MBR systems), industrial filtration, and oil-contaminated water filtration, among other applications. Its high strength, washability, high water permeability, oil resistance, chemical resistance, and other performance functionalities make the Sumitomo MBR membrane supplier in India popular for high-quality membranes for various water treatment applications.

4 Principles of Sumitomo Poreflon Membranes

➤ Chemical Resistance: PFTE offers superior chemical resistance, implying it does not degrade when exposed to chemicals.

➤ Durability: The Sumitomo membrane is extremely tough, demonstrating exceptional durability against flexing and shaking, thereby extending service life.

➤ Permeability: The PFTE membrane is highly permeable to water due to its high porosity. The higher the porosity, for less resistance to the water passage. This, in turn, allows for higher water permeability.

➤ Heat Resistance: PFTE, as a material, exhibits high resistance to heat, making the Sumitomo membrane ideal for applications up to 200 °C.

How Sumitomo Poreflon Membrane Works?

The Sumitomo Poreflon membrane works through the porous polytetrafluoroethylene hollow fibre structure. These membranes are integrated into the MBR Bioreactor in microfiltration or ultrafiltration systems.

Sumitomo Membrane Working Mechanism

1. Material Structure: Made from 100% porous PFTE  hollow fibres, it works as a filtration membrane. The fibres have a composite asymmetric structure, which is a dense filtration layer and a supporting inner layer. This design offers filtration accuracy and high strength to prevent breakage even under demanding structures.

2. Filtration Process: The membrane works as a selective barrier with microscopic pores typically ranging from 0.05 μm to 0.1 μm for UF/MF applications.

➤ Pressure Driven: Wastewater or process liquids pass through the membrane due to the pressure gradient force in both submerged and pressurised modules.

➤ Selective Barrier: The membrane serves as a selective barrier, allowing high-purity water to pass, while retaining bacteria, suspended solids and other contaminants.

3. Permeate Collection: Permeate collected is further treated, while retained contaminants are removed through chemical cleaning or backwashing to maintain the performance of the membrane.
